EU Regulatory Changes: Mandatory Product Identifiers (PIDs)

To ensure cross-border shipments continue to clear customs smoothly, we would like to inform you of new data requirements and regulatory changes within the EU.

Mandatory EU Product Identifiers (PIDs)

From 1 November 2026, it will be mandatory to provide Product Identifiers (PIDs) for all distance-sale goods imported into the EU. This requirement applies to every individual product within a customs item. You must prepare to provide the following data fields:

M-PID (Merchant PID): This will usually be the SKU. It’s the retailer ID for each item.

NS-PID (Non-standardised PID): This is the item code assigned by the factory which produced the goods. There is no standard format to this code.

S-PID (Standardised PID): This is the item code as defined by an international standard such as EAN, GTIN, MPN or ISBN.

We are currently updating our API to accept this enlarged dataset and we ask that our retail partners speak with their software providers, should they use direct data transmission.
