About OCS Worldwide

Our history

Our history

OCS (Overseas Courier Service) Worldwide was founded in 1957 by a consortium of major newspaper publishers in Tokyo, as a global, fast-delivery system for time-sensitive business publications. It was the first such private international delivery network, dedicated entirely to overseas air-speed shipping.

At first, OCS Worldwide focused on next-day delivery of critical financial news, within the major markets of Asia and the Pacific Rim. By 1962, we very quickly expanded our system to handle overnight delivery from Asia to all other major business centres throughout the growing global economy.

By 1958 OCS was established in the United Kingdom to support the expanding global business.

Export routes quickly developed within the OCS global network, giving birth to our customs function that today handles compliance on all imports and exports, and now handling thousands of parcels a day, matching the ever growing requirement for worldwide eCommerce shipments.

As OCS Worldwide evolved, we adapted our network to the movement of all types of business materials, from small documents to software media to hardware systems to commodities and eCommerce, covering all weights from just a few grams to thousands of kilos.

Today, OCS Worldwide services range from eCommerce solutions, to express courier delivery to heavy air freight to fulfilment and wholesale distribution. Growth of volume and new services has made the OCS Worldwide organisation excel, not just in delivery services but bespoke logistical and eCommerce offerings and 3pl fulfilment.

Our staff

The longest serving member of the OCS Worldwide team, is our Managing Director, Tim Jones, who, before becoming one of our shareholders, joined the UK business over 35 years ago. Our average tenure in 2025 is a little over 11 years, saying something about the culture, the individuals and the team at both our London and Coventry hubs.

Everyone at OCS Worldwide has a simple ethos, do what’s right for the customer and the customer’s customer, regardless of the position you hold in the business, treat our customers’ business as if it was your own. This attitude has helped us develop some amazing staff-led initiatives such as our returns solution and our Management Information portal called FlightDeck, helping our team grow and progress their careers within the OCS Worldwide family. We’re a customer- and consumer-facing business, we aim to be present when our customers need us, regardless of the time, or even the day. In retail, a bank holiday is just another trading day, so we’re there for our partners when it counts. The delivery is an intrinsic part of the wider eCommerce sub-section of retail and being your partner is about the delight your customer experiences on their total on-line journey.

You can find out more about our customer-facing colleagues on our Meet the Team page.

Our environmental commitment

Our environmental commitment

At OCS Worldwide we see it as paramount that we do all we can to reduce our environmental footprint as much as possible through actionable and measurable strategies.

In the UK we operate a growing fleet of electric vehicles and remain committed to expanding this fleet as technology and infrastructure allow. Additionally, we prioritise route consolidation across our operations to minimise fuel consumption and reduce unnecessary mileage.

One of the main areas we prioritise when partnering with an airline is their use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a biofuel that can reduce the carbon footprint of an aircraft, as its main form of manufacture is from non-petroleum products, such as waste cooking oil, municipal waste, or waste wood.

British Airways currently source in excess of 12.5 million litres of SAF per year, while Delta Airlines has a target to replace 10% of its aviation fuel with a SAF alternative by 2030. United Airlines have a net zero target of 100% by 2050 and American Airlines launched an initiative in 2022 to replace all plastics in their cargo operation with BioNatur Plastic. This equates to a landfill reduction of over 6.4m 1 litre water bottles per year.

Additionally, all of our airline partners are moving to electric vehicles for their airside operations and have near-term targets to move to a 100% electric fleet in their cargo operations at the latest, by 2050.

We actively seek partnerships with like-minded organisations that share our environmental values, ensuring alignment across the whole supply chain. Through ongoing evaluations and investments in green technologies, we aim to continually enhance our sustainability performance and contribute to a cleaner future.
