A Special Visitor

We have a very special visitor with us in the UK—Jumpei Hosogai, an Overseas Business Coordinator from our Global Head Office in Japan. He’s here to dive deep into the world of UK eCommerce and to understand what makes our retailers successful in not only selling domestically, but expanding their markets to a global audience of shoppers. Jumpei’s visit is a prime example of our cross-country employee exchange program, a dynamic initiative designed to foster innovation and global collaboration within the OCS family.

During his time here, Jumpei has been following the entire lifecycle of an e-commerce shipment, from the moment it’s picked to the final delivery. He’s already spent time at our fulfilment and returns facility in Coventry, learning about our third-party logistics (3PL) solutions, which handle everything from shoes to magazines.

We sat down with Jumpei to get his first impressions and learn about what he hopes to gain from the experience.

What is your role at OCS in Japan? I’m an Overseas Business Executive, responsible for our global network.

First impressions of OCS Worldwide (UK)? The team is incredibly friendly and flexible to customer requests. The sheer volume of international packages you ship every night is impressive!

What’s the biggest difference between UK and Japanese operations? The UK team handles a massive volume of B2C parcels with fewer employees. Japan’s main focus is B2B, with a small volume of home deliveries.

What do you hope to take back to Japan? I want to take back your business philosophy—your focus on the retail promise, simple solutions, and a global offer. I hope to leave with a deeper understanding of how successful your e-commerce solutions are for retailers.

Before heading back to Japan, will be spending time with our commercial team, visiting our Japanese customers who use OCS to move goods between the UK and Japan, as well as our operations team, customs and compliance, carrier management and some very special days delivering in London with one of the OCS Worldwide drivers, our brand ambassadors on the road.

Jumpei’s visit is more than just a trip; it’s a living testament to the benefits of a cross-country employee exchange program. This initiative is a powerful way to break down silos, foster a truly global mind-set, and drive our business forward.

When employees from different countries collaborate, they exchange unique insights and operational strategies. Jumpei’s visit allows him to see our focus on B2C logistics first-hand, offering a fresh perspective that can be applied to our operations in Japan.

These programs build strong personal and professional bonds across our global network. When our teams feel connected, it strengthens our ability to collaborate on international projects and provide seamless service to our global customers.

Stepping into a new culture and a different operational environment provides an unparalleled opportunity for employees to grow both professionally and personally. It broadens their perspective, hones their problem-solving skills, and enhances their adaptability.

And importantly, by blending different business philosophies and approaches, we create an environment ripe for innovation. Jumpei’s goal of understanding our “simple solutions and global offer” can lead to new ideas that benefit our entire network.

Jumpei’s visit is a win-win for everyone, strengthening our global family and helping us stay at the forefront of the e-commerce industry. We look forward to seeing what new ideas he brings back to the team in Japan and what he leaves from his time with the OCS team in the United Kingdom.
