From career insights to changing tariffs: Paul Scratchley guests on Behind The Chain
We were thrilled to be invited to take part in a leading industry podcast which takes a peek under the bonnet of the world of eCommerce, logistics and supply chain â Behind The Chain.
Our Sales & Marketing Director, Paul Scratchley, guest starred in a recent episode, chatting about his career and looking at topics including de minimis and the effect of changing tariffs on global trade.
As a specialist who has worked in the sector for three decades â with the last 20 years in eCommerce – Paul was able to give a real insight into whatâs happening today and what might happen in the future. Paulâs career has covered sales, operations, IT, finance and back to sales again. As he comments in the podcast, âhaving that experience makes you a much better sales person, because itâs not then about sales itâs about solutionsâ.
Touching on the changing landscape of tariffs, Paul said: âThere has been a huge change. After years of de minimis and getting into the States no problem at all, we now have tariffs which makes trade more complicated.
âHowever, I am very lucky that at OCS we look at these problems and then work out solutions that enable UK retailers to continue shipping to America, working with the tariffs as opposed to wondering how to survive them. There will be big changes in Europe this year too, and retailers have to be ready for that.â
Hosted by Joey Luttrull, Behind The Chain brings senior leaders from retail, eCommerce and supply chain to the microphone for candid, real-world conversations about industry challenges emerging trends and the evolving customer experience.
It’s a guards down theme, sharing insights that spark ideas and connections across the sector â no scripts just genuine perspectives.
Joey commented: âPaul was an excellent speaker and a natural in front of the camera. His insights were thorough and delved into various perspective of the logistics industry, which will offer high engagement levels for our audiences.
âWe welcomed the conversation topics Paul wanted to tuck into, whilst we asked a couple of hip fire questions within the initial talking point.â
Paul equally enjoyed the experience, adding: âMeeting Joey and the team was a pleasure as they are all totally immersed in the logistics sector and understand the challenges we face, including how tariff challenges affect consumer confidence and the flow of eCommerce.
âMy goal was to show how easy it is for UK retailers to explore the opportunities that international selling can bring, to normalise the idea of cross-border eCommerce, and to demystify legislation and compliance. I wanted to explain that âred tapeâ, if approached correctly, isnât insurmountable.
âJoey is a natural interviewer. The experience was exciting and it was a real pleasure to talk on the subject I probably know most about.â
