The BBC investigates the aftermath of the Marks & Spenser cyber attack, that knocked out its online offer and caused disruption to available lines within the store network.

It reports that Marks & Spencer has revealed that some customer data was stolen during a recent cyber-attack targeting the retailer.

The company has been struggling to get services back to normal since the attack in April, which left some shelves empty, deliveries in limbo and online orders suspended.

It told customers on Tuesday 13th May 2025, to remain cautious about receiving emails, calls or texts claiming to be from M&S. M&S has revealed that some personal customer data was stolen during the attack. It says information taken could include contact details such as people’s names, home addresses, phone numbers or email addresses.

China and America agree a 90 day deal on reciprocal tariffs.

USA And China Tariff War

The USA and China have reached a 90-day agreement on the reduction of reciprocal tariffs by 115%.

The fall will come into effect on Wednesday 14th May 2025.

There has been no movement in the announcement that restores the de minimis for Chinese and/or Hong Kong goods, meaning a 30% reciprocal tariff is still an addition to existing tariffs, increasing the cost of some items by as much as 55% at the border.

Prior to this announcement, China’s reciprocal tariffs were at 125%, while the USA reciprocal tariffs were at 145%

Stock markets in the USA and China have responded well to the news, however the European Chamber of Commerce in China says while it’s “encouraged by the decision, uncertainty remains”.

Australia Post are changing the way in which they track and display notifications when they attempt a delivery, but can’t leave the parcel at the address. Starting on 19th  May 2025, they will providing MyPost customers with photo confirmation of an ‘attempted delivery’, which they can access using the AusPost app.

Having taken a lead from customer feedback, where accurate and timely updates are a vital part of the delivery experience, they now capture and share photos to keep parcel receivers informed and give assurance and clarity around deliveries. They do this when.

1. Customers request that they leave a parcel in a safe place, taking a photo to assist the customer to locate the item.

2. They attempt to deliver a parcel but are unable to do so, ensuring the delivery team member takes a photo of the front door of the property.

3. They may also capture a photo if the Post Person identifies a hazard which the delivery team needs to be aware of for future deliveries.

Strike to disrupt flights in and out of Italy

Media sources report that the CUB Trasporti union has called for a national 4-hour air transport strike across Italy from 13:00 to 17:00 local time on 9th May, 2025. The protest will involve airline and airport workers. Additionally, Flai Trasporti e Servizi has called on ground handling staff to go on strike during the same Strike to disrupt flights in and out of Italy

Spain & Portugal Power Outage

At 13:00 on 28th April 2025, Sky News reports. Spain-Portugal power outage latest: Chaos as blackouts hit swathes of both countries and airports lose power. A massive power outage has hit parts of Spain and Portugal. Traffic lights and phone lines are down, the Madrid underground has been evacuated and trains have stopped.
